Growing up in East Africa has been a blessing in disguise. I understand that my God-given experiences are unique, especially in comparison to our brothers and sisters in developed nations. This does not make me better but instead I recognize that I am blessed differently. I appreciate it and it is my desire to acknowledge, appreciate and utilize my experiences and reflect the same blessings to other around me.
As social and cultural dynamics change, the expression and mode of reflecting God's blessings and love to others need to change accordingly. There will always be a necessity for churches and traditional ministries to share the Gospel. However, as each child is gifted uniquely and separately, I find myself spending more time trying to tailor the modes of how to bless others.
Serving as the school manager of the Presbyterian Seminary, a private Christian co-education boarding middle school, I oversee the administration and management of the school. Since joining in 2017, the school's ranking went from 28 of 58 to currently 4th in the region. The education the students receive is competent and competitive. However, my heart has matured from the provision of an education and is now focused now "what type of graduates do we want to develop". It is my desire to cultivate students who are not only equipped with a proper Christian worldview, but with develop God-given skills and ready to be used in the "real world".
Arts and access to and creation of art is important. Arts is not heavily encouraged here; instead viewed like a hobby. I am not to thwart but to encourage the God-given skills and gifts to our students. Having access to art supplies and materials is a luxury for many of our students. Viewing art is passive. The creation of art is discouraged and viewed as a poor use of time. But the reality of it all is that art may not pay the bills for many here, but as Christian I will always advocate for youths to do what they have convictions for; the use of their God-given skills. Through the use of our God-given skills, we can bless this world.
I am thankful for partnering up with ACT. Art in its many forms, I believe, expresses God love to this world and our enjoymet of art bring joy back to God. As ACT provides opportunity for the pursuit of Art...the expression of Art...I can only be excited for the bright light that is God's love being shown to the world through ACT.
